http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2013/11/marco-rubio-on-edward-snowden-a-traitor-who-sparked-conspiracy-theories/281755/

This article begins by criticizing Marco Rubio who said that Edward Snowden was a traitor by alarming the american population that the NSA was spying on them. The author of this article than began to describe Edward Snowden as a Patriot. Their main argument was that you can't label Snowden as a traitor because he was trying to protect our liberties.

Digital Story Proposal

The internet today has created a new medium that people can use today to communicate. However some people use it to be unkind to other people. The use of electronic communication to bully a person, typically by sending messages of an intimidating nature(Merriam-Webster Definition). This "cyberbullying" is very common today. It is very common to find cyberbullying on social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook and it is very common to happen between teenagers. In the past before the internet bullying happened face to face and once the harm was done the person that was afflicted has a chance to move on and forget about what had happened. Cyberbullying happens on the internet and whatever the bully posts intending to harm their prey the whole world can see. I have seen these arguments happen on the internet before and it is just unacceptable. It is just awful that someone would post terrible things about someone else and they know that the whole world will see what they post. There are also many instances that the person that is bullied will commit suicide. That is just terrible that someone could heartlessly post something knowing that what they have committed could result in someone killing themselves. I stand by my idea that the internet should not be able to be used to harm other people emotionally to the point where there are instances that someone kills themselves. I will create a Digital Story to express my message to the world to stop cyberbullying.

Discussion Questions

1) In what ways are violent games changing the society that we live in today?

2) If there are games that educate people about issues that need to be raised and taught to our society, how are games that depict players using drugs, killing people, destroying things and other illegal things teach us to be bad people?

3) If games are very useful in teaching us people many things, then why do we choose to play violent games like Call of Duty where we kill other people? Is that what we really think they are good for?

Week 9

The purpose of our Social Action Project is to educate many individuals about internet privacy. However, we are more so trying to educate people about the harm that can come from carelessly posting things on social media websites such as Twitter, Facebook Instagram. Not to say that we are always tempted to post destructive things on the internet just because we all have easy access to social media through cell phones and computers, it is more based on the fact that social media has become very popular today and it can harm us if we use it to post anything reckless. Consequences of such actions include: getting fired from a job and losing a job opportunity. This is because since social media websites have become so popular that companies have started to look at social media websites in the process when they are considering hiring a new individual. That is how companies today can find out other aspects about the person that is seeking their job opening.

We plan to educate people about this privacy exploitation through a form of Guerrilla Art. The specific way we are going to use guerrilla art is through making bookmarks and putting them into books in the school library. This way we are putting around 300 notes around in the library that people will unknowingly as well as inevitably come upon and learn about issues that their lives are in the face of.

Included in this article below are several examples about how harmful social media websites really are. For example lets take the case that includes a school teacher named Ashley Payne. Ashley Payne was forced to resign from her job in 2009 because she posted inappropriate pictures on Facebook as well as posted a picture of her holding glasses of alcohol. Even though Paynes Facebook account was private, her boss, the principle eventually found out about these pictures and status posts. He in response asked Payne to leave with resignation.

Even though Paynes profile was Private, she still posted material that was not suitable for a teacher to post that. It is actually not appropriate for anybody to post material like that. We can easily learn from this example as well as the several other examples of how social media has ruined peoples lives
