We take so many things for granted today. We don't even think twice sometimes about how lucky we are to have many things such as proper sanitation facilities or even access to clean water. Maybe that's because we don't know that we are lucky to have them. Maybe if people knew that 783 million people do not have access to clean water, and 2.5 billion people don't have access to proper sanitation facilities they would realize that they are very lucky. But at the same time maybe people do know that people don't have access to clean water or proper sanitation facilities and they are doing nothing about it. Can any of you imagine living a day of your life without either of these basic things? Living a life where you are surrounded by polluted water and sanitation practices that spread many dangerous diseases, and to collect water you have to hike for many hours to retrieve it, and this job is left to the women who in exchange for the hours trekking to get water for their families they have no time for education. So access to clean water also effects education? Wow thats something many people probably don't know. Some countries have responded to this issue, like Australia who have worked with local communities to build over 3,000 water supply points and over 3,000 latrines with comprehensive sanitation facilities. It's good to know that someone is taking a stand to this issue and hopefully many others will follow.
